Lorna Ogolla Omondi, daughter of the late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, has been appointed to the board of Kenya’s National Cybersecurity Agency (NCA).
The appointment, announced through a gazette notice dated September 11, 2026, was made by Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen.
Lorna will serve on the board for a three-year term alongside Jerop Joy Kibor, taking on a new public leadership role that builds on her extensive experience in technology, business operations and strategic planning.
Her appointment comes more than two years after the death of her father, General Francis Ogolla, who died in a military helicopter crash in West Pokot in April 2024.
A career built in technology
Lorna has established an impressive career in the global technology sector, including several senior roles at Google.
She currently serves as Head of Operational Excellence for Google’s Data Centre Equipment Supply Chain, a position she has held since April 2023.
Her work covers areas including business operations, strategic planning, operations management, data management, and the development of systems and processes that support Google’s data centre infrastructure.
Before taking up her current position, Lorna held a number of roles within Google’s data centre operations.
From October 2021 to April 2023, she served as a senior lead in supply planning, where she was involved in worldwide capacity planning and operations for Google’s data centres.
She previously worked as a lead in functional supply planning and later as a lead for global infrastructure, contributing to energy and location strategy for Google’s data centre network.
Her experience in technology is complemented by a background in economics and consulting. Before joining Google, Lorna worked as a management and economic consultant at Analysis Group and as an energy analyst at Greylock McKinnon Associates.
She also worked as a research assistant in the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
From global technology to public service
Lorna’s appointment places her experience in technology and infrastructure at the heart of Kenya’s growing focus on cybersecurity.
As Kenya continues to expand its digital economy, cybersecurity has become increasingly important for protecting government systems, businesses, institutions and citizens from growing digital threats.
For Lorna, the new appointment represents a move from working on technology infrastructure at a global level to contributing her expertise to Kenya’s public sector.
Her career also highlights the growing role of women with expertise in technology, economics and business in shaping important institutions and national policy.
