Equity Bank, in partnership with Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organisation (MYWO), has continued to transform lives in Mutomo, Kitui South Sub-County, Kitui County, through the National Water Harvesting Project, an initiative aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water while strengthening women’s economic empowerment.
MYWO was pleased to host the Equity Bank team during a community engagement and training session that reaffirmed the organizations’ shared commitment to enhancing household water security and promoting sustainable livelihoods.
Through this partnership, women are provided with access to affordable financing that enables them to purchase water storage tanks, helping families harvest and store rainwater, reduce the burden of water scarcity, and improve access to safe drinking water throughout the year.
Beyond improving water access, the initiative equips participants with valuable life and business skills through comprehensive training in financial literacy, digital literacy, and entrepreneurship. These sessions empower women to manage their finances more effectively, embrace digital financial services, start or expand small businesses, and build resilient sources of income.
The collaboration recognizes that access to water and financial inclusion are closely linked. By combining practical water solutions with economic empowerment, the project enables women to save time previously spent searching for water, improve household health, and invest more energy in productive activities that support their families and communities.
The partnership between Equity Bank and MYWO demonstrates how strategic collaboration can address both social and economic challenges, creating lasting impact through sustainable water management, financial inclusion, and women’s empowerment. As the National Water Harvesting Project continues to reach more communities, it is helping build a future where women have the resources, knowledge, and opportunities to improve their quality of life and contribute to local development.
