Merck Foundation, in partnership with the Voice of Children Foundation of Kenya, has awarded 47 annual scholarships and grants to young girls through the Educating Linda program.
The initiative continues to expand access to education while also strengthening healthcare systems and addressing critical social issues such as infertility stigma through the “More Than a Mother” campaign.
At the State House, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to Kenya through a strengthened partnership with H.E. Mrs. Rachel Ruto, First Lady of Kenya.
The partnership is centred on expanding access to education for vulnerable girls, strengthening healthcare capacity through targeted training and support, and raising awareness to challenge harmful cultural stigma, particularly around infertility. By integrating these efforts, the initiative is designed to deliver a holistic and sustainable long-term impact.
A key highlight of the engagement was the opportunity to meet scholarship beneficiaries and their families. The moment served not only as a celebration of academic progress but also as a powerful reminder of the role education plays in transforming lives.
Through the Educating Linda program, beneficiaries are encouraged to approach their studies with confidence and determination, set ambitious goals for their future, and build resilience as they navigate challenges along their educational journey.
The program also provides mentorship and structured support, ensuring that these young girls are not only enrolled in school but are equipped to succeed.
While education remains a central focus, the Merck Foundation’s work extends far beyond scholarships. Across Africa and Asia, the Foundation runs multi-sector programs aimed at strengthening healthcare systems and empowering communities.
These initiatives span medical training for doctors and healthcare providers in underserved regions, scholarships for specialists in critical healthcare fields, awareness campaigns addressing infertility stigma and women’s health, and community empowerment programs targeting youth and women. Through this integrated approach, the Foundation ensures that education and healthcare are addressed as interconnected drivers of sustainable development.
The Merck Foundation’s initiatives highlight the critical role of education and healthcare in achieving sustainable development. By investing in young girls today, the Foundation is contributing to a future where women are empowered, communities are healthier, and opportunities are more equitable.
The Educating Linda program, in particular, stands as a powerful example of how targeted interventions can create lasting change, one student, one family, and one community at a time.
As Kenya continues to prioritise inclusive growth and social development, partnerships like this play a vital role in bridging gaps and expanding opportunity.
Through sustained investment, mentorship, and collaboration, the Merck Foundation is helping shape a generation of confident, educated, and empowered young women ready to lead the future.
