The Kenya Women Parliamentary Association has released its latest Empower Her Newsletter, highlighting efforts to advance women’s leadership, gender equality, and inclusive governance in Kenya.
Under the leadership of Chairperson Leah Sankaire, KEWOPA continues to play a critical role as a multi-party caucus of women legislators advocating for gender-responsive laws and policies. The newsletter serves as both a visibility and accountability platform, tracking progress under the association’s four-year strategic plan.
This edition showcases KEWOPA’s efforts to expand women’s participation in politics through mentorship, leadership training, and amplifying the voices of women in legislative spaces. It also highlights ongoing advocacy around the two-thirds gender rule, as the association continues to push for greater representation of women in leadership and decision-making.
Beyond Parliament, KEWOPA’s Mashinani (grassroots) engagements are bringing these conversations closer to communities, with forums held in counties such as Kajiado, Mombasa, and Homa Bay—creating direct links between policymakers and citizens, especially women and youth.
The newsletter further underscores KEWOPA’s strong partnerships with organisations such as UN Women, Global Affairs Canada, and the Institute of Public Finance, particularly in advancing gender-responsive budgeting and improving health outcomes.
It also addresses emerging issues such as digital security and online violence against women leaders, reinforcing KEWOPA’s commitment to protecting women’s rights both offline and online.
Through member spotlights—including leaders like Crystal Asige—the publication celebrates women driving change in areas such as disability rights, governance, and social inclusion.
Overall, the Empower Her Newsletter reflects KEWOPA’s broader mission: ensuring that women’s voices are not only heard, but actively shape Kenya’s political, social, and economic future.
