Magdalene Takangiro, known in the fashion world as Taka, is blazing a trail for young African talent and redefining what’s possible for girls from Kenya’s remote regions.
Born and raised in Turkana County, Taka’s journey from humble beginnings has captured hearts and headlines, culminating in her leading role at the highly anticipated grand finale of Africa’s Next Super Model on November 22 at Broadwalk Mall, Nairobi.
Taka’s story is one of remarkable resilience and ambition. Her early education took place beneath the open skies of Turkana, studying under trees far from the glamour of international runways. Undeterred by her circumstances, she completed high school in 2021 and earned a place at Kabarak University, where she pursued a degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery. This dual pursuit of academia and artistry speaks to her multifaceted aspirations, not only to grace the runway, but to serve and heal.
While at university, Taka’s poise, intelligence, and beauty earned her the title of Miss Kabarak University 2024,an accolade that changed the course of her life. Her win caught the attention of Isis Models Africa, founded by industry powerhouse Joan Okorodudu, and Wave Management, who quickly recognized Taka’s exceptional potential. Under their guidance, Taka’s modeling career began to soar.
In her debut season, Taka made an indelible mark on the world of fashion. She graced the Milan runways in early 2024, gaining valuable experience and honing her craft. But it was at Paris Fashion Week where she truly made history, opening the show for the iconic Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) brand. This achievement cemented her status as a rising star and a role model for aspiring African models everywhere.
Despite her meteoric rise in modeling, Taka remains deeply committed to her studies. She is set to graduate with a degree in Clinical Medicine and Surgery on December 19, 2025. Her ability to balance a demanding academic program with a flourishing international modeling career is a testament to her discipline, intellect, and determination.
Taka never forgets her roots. In interviews, she credits her success to God, her supportive family, and her mentors, especially Joan Okorodudu and Isis Models Africa—for believing in her dreams.
She describes Africa’s Next Super Model as “a beacon of hope for the hopeless but talented,” a message that resonates with countless young people from humble backgrounds.
As Taka prepares to lead the runway at the Africa’s Next Super Model grand finale, she stands as a symbol of possibility and inspiration. Her story,a blend of grit, grace, and gratitude, proves that with talent and tenacity, even the most unlikely dreams can become reality.
Magdalene “Taka” Takangiro is not just walking the runway; she’s paving the way for the next generation of African dreamers.
