Chioniso Michelle Murinda has been appointed to the inaugural United Nations Development Programme Global Platform of Women Insider Mediators, a significant milestone that recognises her growing influence in peacebuilding, diplomacy, and youth leadership across Africa and beyond.
Murinda currently serves as the Global Co-Chair of the AWLN Youth Caucus, where she has played a key role in advancing youth inclusion, women’s leadership, and intergenerational dialogue within peace and governance spaces. Her appointment places her among a distinguished group of women leaders and mediators working to strengthen conflict prevention, peace processes, and inclusive dialogue at regional and global levels.
The UNDP Global Platform of Women Insider Mediators was established to amplify the role of women in mediation and peace negotiations, while ensuring that women’s perspectives and lived experiences remain central in shaping sustainable peace and security strategies worldwide. The initiative also seeks to strengthen networks of women peacebuilders who are actively involved in conflict resolution and community reconciliation efforts.
In a statement, AWLN described Murinda’s appointment as a reflection of her unwavering commitment to empowering young people, promoting diplomacy, and championing meaningful participation of women in peace and security processes.
The network further noted that her leadership continues to inspire a new generation of African women and youth to actively engage in governance, policy-making, and conflict resolution.
Over the years, Chioniso Michelle Murinda has emerged as a strong advocate for inclusive leadership and youth representation, using her voice and platform to champion issues affecting women and marginalised communities. Through her work with AWLN and other international initiatives, she has consistently emphasised the importance of intergenerational collaboration in building peaceful and resilient societies.
Her appointment also marks a significant achievement for Zimbabwean women and African youth leaders, highlighting the growing recognition of young African women in global diplomatic and peacebuilding spaces traditionally dominated by older generations.
AWLN praised Murinda for ensuring that the voices, aspirations, and experiences of African women and youth remain visible and influential in international peace and security discussions.
The organisation expressed confidence that she will make meaningful contributions to the global peace agenda while continuing to advocate for inclusive and sustainable solutions to conflict and inequality.
As she takes on this new role, Chioniso Michelle Murinda joins a global movement of women leaders working to transform peacebuilding efforts through dialogue, inclusion, and grassroots engagement, further cementing Africa’s growing influence in international mediation and diplomacy.
