The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE) joined the Mastercard Foundation in celebrating Community Week 2026, marking a key milestone in their long-standing partnership focused on empowering young people across Africa.
The event was held across five countries, Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda, and Rwanda, and highlighted the impact of collaboration in advancing education, leadership development, skills training, and employment opportunities for Africa’s youth.
Under the theme Creating Impact Together, the celebrations underscored the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable development and meaningful social transformation.
During the celebrations, Mastercard Foundation President and CEO Ms. Sewit Ahderom emphasised that impactful programs are built not only on strategy but also on strong relationships, trust, and shared vision.
“Impactful programs are not only built through strategy on paper, but through strong relationships and shared purpose,” said Ms. Sewit Ahderom, CEO of Mastercard Foundation.
FAWE leadership echoed this perspective, describing their more than 12-year partnership with the Foundation as a powerful example of how collaboration can transform lives and expand opportunities for African youth. Through this partnership, both organisations continue to promote access to education for marginalised learners, strengthen skills development for employability and entrepreneurship, support leadership training for young change-makers, and create pathways to dignified work and sustainable livelihoods.
The regional celebrations reflected the wide-reaching impact of the FAWE–Mastercard Foundation partnership.
In Ethiopia, FAWE was represented by Deputy Executive Director Ms. Teresa Omondi-Adeitan alongside FAWE Ethiopia National Chapter Coordinator Ms. Selamawit Admassu.
Similar engagements were held across Rwanda, Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya, reinforcing a shared commitment to continental collaboration and youth empowerment.
As Community Week 2026 concludes, FAWE and the Mastercard Foundation reaffirmed their commitment to advancing inclusive education, leadership development, and economic opportunity for Africa’s youth.
Both organisations emphasised that investing in young people remains central to shaping a stronger and more equitable future for the continent.
