Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming how people work, communicate, access information, and engage with the world. As digital technologies become increasingly integrated into everyday life, understanding both their opportunities and risks has become essential, particularly for women leaders operating in public spaces.
To address this growing need, the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA), in partnership with Oxfam, the National Police Service (NPS), and the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), conducted a specialized training on Artificial Intelligence, online abuse, and emerging technologies.
Building Capacity for Digital Leadership
The training brought together women leaders to strengthen their capacity to navigate an increasingly digital environment while promoting safe and responsible use of technology.
Speaking during the session, Hon. Esther M. Passaris, OGW, emphasized the growing relevance of AI in modern society.
“Artificial Intelligence is no longer a digital concept; it is now a part of our everyday lives.”
Her remarks underscored the reality that AI is reshaping governance, communication, business, and civic engagement, making digital literacy an essential leadership skill.
Addressing Online Abuse and Digital Risks
Participants explored key topics including the opportunities presented by AI, digital rights, technology-facilitated gender-based violence (TFGBV), and practical strategies for enhancing online safety.
The discussions highlighted the increasing prevalence of online abuse targeting women in leadership and public life, while also examining mechanisms for prevention, reporting, and response.
The training further encouraged participants to embrace emerging technologies responsibly while remaining vigilant against digital threats.
Promoting Safer Digital Spaces
As technology continues to evolve, stakeholders emphasized the importance of strengthening digital resilience, safeguarding online spaces, and enhancing digital literacy among women leaders.
By equipping women with the knowledge and tools needed to engage safely and effectively in digital spaces, initiatives such as this contribute to more inclusive leadership and meaningful participation in the digital economy.
The training reaffirmed the collective commitment of KEWOPA and its partners to ensuring that women leaders are empowered to harness the benefits of technology while remaining protected from emerging digital risks.
