Charlene Ruto has launched Farm2Fork, an eco-friendly farm-to-table restaurant aimed at promoting sustainable living, healthy eating, climate-smart agriculture, and youth empowerment in Kenya.
The first daughter unveiled the blueprint of the innovative eco-restaurant during an event where the president laid the foundation stone for the project. Farm2Fork is expected to become a model for sustainable agriculture and environmentally conscious food systems in the country.
Charlene said the initiative seeks to eliminate long food supply chains by ensuring that food served at the restaurant is grown directly on the farm where it is prepared and consumed.
“Picture this, a restaurant built on a farm. Not just close to the source, but rooted in it. Where what ends up on your plate is grown just a few steps away, harvested at its peak, and prepared with intention,” she explained.
Farm2Fork to Promote Sustainable Agriculture and Healthy Living
The Farm2Fork concept is centered around sustainable farming, fresh food production, and climate-conscious living. The eco-restaurant will connect consumers directly to locally grown produce while encouraging environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
Charlene noted that the project is rooted in healthy living and aims to inspire communities to embrace organic food systems, local farming, and responsible consumption.
The initiative also aligns with Kenya’s growing focus on climate-smart agriculture as farmers continue to face challenges such as climate change, drought, and food insecurity.
Charlene Ruto’s Passion for Smart Farming and Climate Action
Charlene has increasingly positioned herself as a strong advocate for smart farming and environmental sustainability through her organisation, Smart Mechanised Agriculture & Climate Action for Humanity and Sustainability (SMACHS).
SMACHS focuses on empowering young people through agriculture, innovation, climate action, and environmental conservation. Through the organisation, Charlene is encouraging youth to view farming as a modern, innovative, and profitable career path.
Her vision supports the adoption of modern agricultural technologies such as greenhouse farming, drip irrigation, mechanised farming, organic agriculture, and sustainable food production systems.
According to Charlene, agriculture has the potential to create employment opportunities for young people while also helping communities adapt to the effects of climate change.
Farm2Fork to Serve as a Youth Learning Hub
Beyond being a restaurant, Farm2Fork is expected to operate as a practical learning centre where young people can gain hands-on skills in agriculture, sustainability, and innovation.
Charlene revealed that the eco-restaurant and the SMACHS Centre of Excellence are being developed as spaces where youth can actively engage in climate-smart agriculture and sustainable living practices.
“From our Centre of Excellence to the Farm2Fork eco-restaurant concept, we are building practical spaces where young people can engage with agriculture, gain hands-on skills, and experience sustainable living firsthand,” she said.
The project aims to equip young people with practical agricultural knowledge while promoting environmental responsibility and food sustainability.
President William Ruto Supports Youth and Climate Initiatives
President William Ruto attended the launch event and laid the foundation stone for the Farm2Fork eco-restaurant, reaffirming support for youth-driven agricultural and climate initiatives.
Charlene appreciated the president for supporting projects focused on empowering young people and advancing climate-conscious solutions for Kenya’s future.
“We remain committed to building, scaling, and creating more opportunities for young people. Rooted in healthy living. Built for a better future,” she added.
Farm2Fork Expected to Drive Kenya’s Sustainable Future
Farm2Fork is expected to become more than just an eco-restaurant. The initiative represents a broader vision of promoting sustainable agriculture, healthy eating, youth empowerment, and climate-smart innovation in Kenya.
As interest in smart farming and environmental sustainability continues to grow across Africa, Charlene Ruto’s Farm2Fork project could inspire more young people to participate in agriculture while embracing climate-conscious solutions for the future.
