PS Gender Ann Wang’ombe and PS Energy Alex Wachira unveiled the rollout of the Last Mile Electrification Project in Kieni Constituency, expanding access to reliable power.
The project is set to connect more than 600 households and businesses across five villages—Muti Umwe, Ngano-ini, Gituchu, Kiaragana, and Mutura Nguru, bringing electricity closer to underserved communities and unlocking new economic opportunities.
Together, the two Principal Secretaries flagged off key materials for the Muti Umwe Last Mile Electrification Project, one of five priority projects currently being implemented in the area. The programme forms part of the government’s broader strategy to accelerate rural electrification, support small enterprises, and improve livelihoods through enhanced energy access.
Beyond the launch, leaders engaged directly with residents of Embaringo in Kieni Constituency, holding a consultative forum to identify and advance critical development priorities. Discussions centred on strengthening the region’s agricultural potential, improving infrastructure, and creating sustainable economic pathways for local communities.
In parallel, the initiative incorporated a strong environmental conservation component. More than 100,000 tree seedlings were distributed to farmers, supporting the 15 Billion Tree Growing Initiative aimed at restoring forest cover and promoting climate resilience across the country.
The event brought together key national and local leaders, including Wahome Wamatinga, Njoroge Wainaina, Hon. Warutere (MCA), and Mark Nderitu, underscoring a coordinated effort between government agencies and community stakeholders to drive inclusive development in the region.
