Environmental advocate and policy strategist Sheila Anyango has been appointed to the Board of Greenspace Action and Network.
This appointment is a milestone that underscores her growing influence in environmental governance, climate policy, and sustainable development. Currently,she serves as Ag. Director General at Youth Senate–Kenya and Kenya Consortium Lead at the African Youth Commission, where she champions people-centered sustainability, public policy innovation, and strategic foresight.

Her appointment also reflects the growing recognition of women’s leadership in environmental decision-making, where diverse perspectives are essential for addressing complex climate and conservation challenges.It places her among a distinguished group of leaders tasked with providing strategic oversight, policy guidance, and governance leadership to steer the organization’s mission of advancing conservation, climate resilience, and community-driven environmental solutions.
As a board member, Sheila will contribute to shaping organizational strategy, strengthening partnerships, mobilizing resources, and ensuring that programs align with national, regional, and global climate and sustainability priorities.
Greenspace Action and Network, through its youth arm ,Youth Greenspace Action and Network (Y-GAN) , empowers young people to actively participate in climate governance and sustainability initiatives, positioning them as key drivers of inclusive and resilient solutions.
Among its key activities, Y-GAN convenes high-level forums such as the Climate Action Summit 2025 – Road to COP30, organized in partnership with institutions including the National Youth Council (NYC) and GIZ.
The organization also supports community-led climate action, capacity building, and clean energy initiatives, while collaborating with government agencies and policy institutions such as KIPPRA and the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
In her new role, Sheila is expected to strengthen the organization’s policy positioning, enhance stakeholder engagement, and help translate grassroots innovations into scalable, policy-backed solutions. Her background in environmental policy, strategic foresight, and multi-stakeholder coordination uniquely positions her to bridge the gap between community action and national development planning.
Greenspace Action and Network’s work is anchored in the broader understanding of greenspaces as essential components of healthy and resilient communities. Greenspaces such as parks, urban forests, gardens, and open natural areas , play a critical role in improving air quality, reducing pollution and urban heat, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing physical and mental well-being. Protecting and expanding these spaces is increasingly seen as a cornerstone of climate adaptation and sustainable urban development.
