Nigeria’s Maryam Bello, co-founder of Parker’s Mobile Clinic, is leveraging telemedicine and artificial intelligence to deliver critical healthcare to remote communities .
Maryam’s commitment to healthcare equity was shaped early in life. Growing up, she observed how access to medical care was often determined by geography and income rather than need. That reality stayed with her and eventually became the foundation of Parker’s Mobile Clinic, which now brings healthcare directly to remote and flood-prone areas.
Her journey into technology began at 14, when she realized innovation isn’t about gadgets or code, but about empathy: “At 14, I saw the power of technology to solve complex human problems. That experience changed how I thought about innovation, not as something distant or technical, but as a tool for empathy.”

From Advocacy to Impact
Maryam’s early efforts centered on raising awareness about healthcare disparities, but the limits of advocacy became clear during a telemedicine pilot that helped a woman safely deliver her baby amid devastating floods. It was a turning point: “That was the moment I moved from talking about problems to creating solutions.”
Today, Parker’s Mobile Clinic serves over 100,000 people, blending mobile health units, remote consultations, AI-powered diagnostics, and robust offline systems that work even during disasters. The model was born from deep collaboration with local communities, incorporating their feedback at every stage to ensure relevance and resilience.
The road has included setbacks, lost funding, shutdowns, and hard pivots. Maryam credits her team’s resilience: “Sustainability isn’t just about money. It’s about flexibility.”
Beyond Medicine: Climate Action and Youth Leadership
Maryam’s vision reaches beyond healthcare. Through ITIS 4 Development, she leads projects ranging from clean cookstove initiatives for rural women to mobile apps for tracking carbon emissions, as well as climate education designed for youth. Her advocacy has taken her to global stages such as COP27, COP28, and the African Youth Climate Assembly, where she’s championed youth involvement in climate policy and proposed curriculum guidelines to UN leaders.
Her achievements include being a Youth4Climate finalist with UNDP (2023) and a top-29 finalist in the Ashoka Green Change Makers competition. She continues to amplify her message through public speaking, including a recent TEDx talk: “I know Africa can rise and Africa can reclaim her future! — Do you believe?”
“Inspiration without honesty is empty; honesty without hope is paralyzing,” she says, urging young Africans to stop waiting for change and instead design it themselves. “Technology doesn’t change things. People do, when they truly understand what their communities need.”
Maryam Bello is proving that, with empathy, vision, and relentless action,Africa’s future can be rewritten, one solution at a time.
