The African Development Bank Group has approved a €100 million loan to advance Morocco’s inclusive, solidarity-based agriculture program, with a strong focus on empowering women and young people.
This initiative is designed to create sustainable economic opportunities for women and youth, enhance food security, and bolster the resilience of small-scale farmers in the face of climate change. The project will foster entrepreneurship through customized financing, targeted incentives, and strengthened technical and financial support systems.
“Women who have the ambition to undertake and succeed in agriculture are our priority,” said Achraf Tarsim, head of the African Development Bank’s country office in Morocco. “With this new operation, we aim to support them every step of the way, helping to build a modern, inclusive, and resilient agricultural sector, one that unlocks the full potential of innovators and job creators in their communities.”
The program will further enable the development of new agricultural production and service infrastructure, anchoring women in local value chains, enhancing their skills, and increasing their productivity. These actions are expected to spur the emergence of women entrepreneurs in agriculture, agro-processing, and digital technologies, while supporting Morocco’s new employment roadmap and promoting rural entrepreneurship.
Aligned with national priorities, the program will contribute to the implementation of the Green Generation 2020-2030 Strategy,Morocco’s blueprint for transforming agriculture into a more inclusive, sustainable, and efficient sector,as well as the National Solidarity Agriculture Program and the National Youth Entrepreneurship Program.
For over five decades, the African Development Bank Group has partnered with Morocco to drive development based on a shared, integrated vision. During this period, the Bank has invested nearly €15 billion in more than 150 high-impact projects across sectors such as transport, water, energy, agriculture, social protection, governance, and finance.
