Janerose Omondi has been appointed as the acting Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of the Privatization Commission, taking over from Dr. Joseph Koskey, who has concluded his two-term tenure.
Dr. Omondi, who previously served as the commission’s Transactions Manager for more than seven years, brings a strong background in finance, auditing, investment, and project management. Her expertise is expected to support the commission’s role in promoting private sector participation in state-owned enterprises.
The commission confirmed the leadership transition on Thursday, stating, “Dr. Joseph Koskey has today handed over the Privatization Commission leadership to Dr. Janerose Omondi, in an acting capacity.”
Her appointment comes amid renewed government efforts to reform state corporations and reduce the fiscal burden on the public sector. Privatization has been identified as a key tool in these reforms, aimed at boosting operational efficiency and attracting investment.
The leadership change also follows the enactment of the Privatization Act, 2023, which President William Ruto signed into law on October 9. The law grants the National Treasury authority to privatize 25 state-owned entities without requiring prior parliamentary approval—significantly streamlining the process.
Dr. Omondi is expected to provide steady leadership during this critical period, as the government moves forward with its ambitious privatization agenda.
